The Music Industry Crosses an AI Tipping Point

I think people are starting to be a little more comfortable being public and upfront about their use, and most importantly, I think a bit more optimistic about the future. It’s not everyone, but there’s definitely a market shift.”

Autumn Rowe, a career songwriter with credits on songs for Jon Batiste, Dua Lipa, Ava Max and many others, says many of her peers have used Suno to make demo productions of songs they wrote and have managed to get those songs placed with recording artists. (Once an artist takes it, the demo is produced by an actual producer, she says.)

Anthropic Claims Its New A.I. Model, Mythos, Is a Cybersecurity ‘Reckoning’

Anthropic said on Tuesday, it will make the new model — known as Claude Mythos Preview — available to a consortium of more than 40 technology companies, including Apple, Amazon and Microsoft, which will use the model to find and patch security vulnerabilities in critical software programs.

Anthropic said it had no plans to release its new technology more widely, but was announcing the new model’s capabilities in one area in particular — identifying security vulnerabilities in software — in an effort to sound the alarm over what the company believes will be a new, scarier era of A.I. threats.

The AI code wars are heating up

Large language models seemed obviously poised to make software development even simpler and even faster. Most code is relatively structured and straightforward; coding languages are generally extremely well-documented; and a vast amount of code is available online for use in training models (albeit via sometimes dubious means). Unlike so much other information you might get from an LLM, you can also check the quality of code just by trying to run it. At first, a few companies figured, LLMs might be able to make writing code faster by predicting the next word the way Google’s autocomplete might. But pretty soon, they hoped, it might be able to do some of the coding for you. Maybe even all of it.

New York City-based Formation Bio has some of the world’s top investors betting on Liu’s vision, including Andreessen Horowitz, Sequoia, Thrive Capital, Kleiner Perkins’ chairman John Doerr and OpenAI’s Sam Altman. It has raised a total of $615 million at a $1.8 billion valuation.

Formation Bio is targeting drugs that have yet to go through phase 2 trials. For these early-stage therapies, there’s more risk, because only 30% succeed at this stage. But there’s also more possible payoff. Liu figures that Formation can work its magic with AI. With the technology they’ve finetuned over the past decade, he says, they can do those trials up to 50% faster, a big advantage when every day of delay can be worth millions.
